Unemployment is the main reason for national pessimism

According to the director of CIEP, Felipe Rodríguez Alpízar, unemployment ranks first (23.3%) on the list of Costa Ricans’ concerns, followed by the cost of living and the economic situation (14.9%).

Greivin Salazar Álvarez, an economist, expressed that according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), unemployment increased 9.4%,  and among the reasons for these year results  there are:

-No new employment opportunities.

-The number of young people who neither study nor work is increasing.

-Social inequalities are increasing.

-A lot of people who want to enter the labor market are not qualified.

On the other hand, problems with public services are also reflected in the survey. According to the data, infrastructure has the worst score, in contrast to electricity, water and the public switched telephone network, which were described as the best.
