Violence increases in Costa Rica

A Nicaraguan man surnamed Narváez, spent 6 hours being beated and tortured to death. The man apparently stole a drug shipment and paid with his life. This happened on June 28th, in San Vicente de Tres Ríos, La Unión.

The police admits that drug score settlings are increasing and it is no longer about simple shootouts. That is not enough for criminals.

It is a phenomenon that we have observed. People have to realize that drug criminals are willing to do anything. They don’t care about people’s lives, they just care about what they are looking for,

declared Luis Ángel Ávila, Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJJ) deputy director.

Narváez was subjected to beatings and psychological abuse. He died due to a blunt force trauma and he had a bag over his head,” police confirmed.

There is a lot of violence; there is no respect for human lives. We have to pay attention to gangs,

said the police chief.

In 2015, 560 homicides were recorded, 215 of them were related to drug conflicts.
