According to Deputy Minister of Justice and Peace Victor Barrantes, Costa Rica has the necessary conditions to lead the Global Peace Index, which is an attempt to measure the relative position of nations’ and regions’ peacefulness. Costa Rica is in the 33th position.
Indicators to determine this index are:
-Number of internal and external wars fought.
-Level of internal conflict.
-Relations with neighboring states.
-Crime rate in society.
-Political instability.
-Level of respect for human rights.
-Number of homicides.
Deputy Victor Barrantes, highlighted the significant improvement that Costa Rica has had and, according to him, it favors tourist sectors and political participation.
In Latin America, Costa Rica is only surpassed by Chile, which ranked 27th.
