Government: nothing will change for Uber

Yesterday’s demonstration by taxi drivers, which resulted in several arrests and fines, did not generate any reaction against Uber by the Government.

The Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Carlos Villalta, said that nothing will happen against the company that provides transportation services in the country and the only thing accomplished by the demonstration were huge economic losses.

Nothing will change for Uber. The demonstration does not change what has been happening so far,”

said the Minister, who wanted to make clear that they will continue with roadside checks and making fines when traffic violations and illegal services are detected.

According to Villalta, it is very difficult to control the system under which Uber operates, and hence the inability to regulate them often, but that does not mean they are in favor of the service or do not want to do anything.

It’s not like we are we saying we can’t do anything, but it is difficult to control an illegal system with characteristics featured by Uber,”

said the minister.
