The government of Luis Guillermo Solís pressed for the National Radio and Television System (SINART) not to investigate its then director general, Pablo Cárdenas, so that the report was not made public before the second electoral round on April 1st.
This was stated on Monday by the president of SINART, Mario Alfaro, to the legislators of the Public Expenditure and Expenditure Control Committee of the Legislative Assembly, which is investigating him for a case of alleged influence peddling.
Alfaro pointed to the former presidents of the Presidency and Communication, Sergio Alfaro and Mauricio Herrera, respectively, and the Minister of Culture, Sylvie Durán.
As stated under oath, the SINART Executive Council was pressured by them to not continue with an investigation against Cárdenas for the departure of Enrique Sánchez, current legislator of the Citizen Action Party (PAC).
Alfaro also assured that the former Minister of the Presidency, requested that the SINART Executive Council did not find out about a legal report against Cárdenas before the April 1st elections.
The now legislator Sánchez worked as an advisor to Cárdenas and asked for a permit to be absent from his work before the first electoral round l, on February 4th, for his political campaign. After he won the seat, he did not return to work and therefore SINART was holding him accountable, but Cárdenas claimed that he had been fired. However, Cárdenas later informed SINART that the letter of dismissal to Sánchez was never delivered to him.
