In the Commission for Control of Income and Public Expenditure, the secretary of the Union of Employees of Bancrédito raised the voice and accused the government of ignoring them and leaving them adrift after the closure of the bank.
Julio Baltodano faced the Minister of the Presidency, Sergio Alfaro and the Minister of Finance, Helio Fallas, and denounced they have not given the workers the importance they deserve and do not give guarantees to those who are now unemployed.
The Government’s action has been a total mockery for all workers. They ignore us. We asked them to join us and what they did was to back down,”
asid Baltodano.
The workers’ representative said that neither Bancrédito’s Board nor any of the executive branches want to sit down and negotiate with them.
I call on the government authorities, listen, let’s talk. We are not criminals,”
demanded Baltodano.
Those words were supported by legislator Mario Redondo, who asked Minister Alfaro if he has something against the province of Cartago.
Baltodano brought up what happened with the closing of the Anglo Bank in the 90’s, indicating that at that time the government gave guarantees to workers.
To date, more than 300 workers have been dismissed from Bancrédito, an entity that closed its commercial operation and became Banco de Fomento y Desarrollo.
