Turrialba volcano starts August with new eruption

On August 1st Turrialba volcano erupted again, releasing an ash cloud that reached about 300 meters high.

According to OVSICORI’s report, the eruption with volcanic tremor lasted about five minutes and started at 5:05 in the morning.

Ash and gas are being dispersed by the wind westward toward the Central Valley.

Until 06:30 a.m., no significant increase was recorded in the concentrations of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and aerosols (PM10 and PM2.5) in the atmosphere, according to the instruments of the Volcanic Gas and Aerosols Monitoring Station, located in the Campus Omar Dengo from the National University in Heredia. So far the OVSICORI-UNA has received no reports of ashfall,”
