November 28, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The fire that destroyed the homes of 300 people on Saturday around midnight in León XIII compelled the municipality of Tibás to set up two shelters in the area, since the victims basically lost everything.

The tragedy took the lives of four people and the municipality decided to use the emergency plan they had designed for hurricane Otto’s possible consequences, including delivering food and clothes.

We were prepared for the hurricane and we had to set up this shelter for 200 people and 92 children since 2 a.m.,

explained Carlos Cascante, Mayor of Tibás.

To help the victims, the municipality has collected food and clothes in Tibás Park and Generación de Pactos Church in León XIII.

Additionally, the victims were visited by staff from Instituto Mixto de Ayuda Social (IMAS).
