Suray Carrillo is the new head of Frente Amplio

April 26, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Frente Amplio chose legislator Suray Carrillo as head of fraction for the last legislature on Tuesday afternoon.

The decision was taken at a meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, after which the legislator Jorge Arguedas, who also aspired to the position, was visibly annoyed and threatened to resign the bench before May Day.

Frente Amplio congressmen also agreed that the sub-division faction will be in the hands of the one who wins the presidential candidacy of the party next May 7th, which is disputed by legislator Edgardo Araya and Francisco Camacho.

Carrillo acknowledged that he won the leadership by majority and did not have the vote of Argueda.

When asked why she did not vote for herself, she replied:

He wanted to be a fraction leader.”

She added that there was awareness among lawmakers that the position should be exercised by a woman because in previous years it corresponded to a woman.

The only fraction of Congress that had not made a decision regarding the leadership was Frente Amplio.
