121 foreign fugitives are hiding in Costa Rica

March 7, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The office of Interpol Costa Rica has 121 profiles of fugitive foreigners that could be hidden in national territory. Crimes such as fraud, homicides, sexual crimes, and drug trafficking are some of the causes that are being investigated.

This was confirmed by Gustavo Chinchilla, head of the Interpol unit in the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ). He explained the fugitives use fake documents, undergo surgeries, and change their nationality to remain hidden.

The most recent case occurred on Tuesday. The judicial police arrested a subject named Moreno Grajales, who was a fugitive since 2016. The Panamanian man is linked to the death of Professor Diosila Martínez Villarreal. Moreno Grajales was captured in Puerto Jimenez, but the authorities handle information that he hid in Cartago and in the Southern Zone.

The Public Ministry of Panama maintained that the main suspect in this crime was a fugitive in Costa Rica. The victim disappeared on November 11th, 2016 and was found until December 5th that year in a grave on a farm belonging to the suspect’s mother in Chiriqui.

The authorities maintain that the man had several houses in Costa Rica where he was hiding.

On the other hand, Interpol pointed out that there are 40 Ticos who are fugitives from justice and take refuge mainly in the United States.
