2016 Limón Roots Awards ceremony

To celebrate and promote the rights, values and traditions of the Afro-descendant community, the Limón Roots Awards ceremony will take place once again.

The event will be held on Tuesday August, 16th at 7 p.m. at the National Theatre, and President Luis Guillermo Solís will be the special guest.

What we do is reward people, organizations, institutions or countries that have made significant contributions to the consolidation of society and world economic development of black culture,”

said Ramiro Crawford, general coordinator of the event.

This celebration is the main event of the 2016 Limón Roots Afrocultural Festival which was categorized by the Presidency and the Ministry of Culture, as “cultural interest.”

Artists and groups from the Central American and Caribbean islands will be part of a cultural evening dedicated to the black race. This year’s edition will be dedicated to Jamaica.

Among the highlights, there are the dance group and folk music Jamaican Folk Singers, comedian Oliver Samuels, considered the best in the field of Caibe as well as reggae gospel singer Jo Ann Richards.

As a preamble to the event on Tuesday, the Jamaican Folk Singers will be in Vargas Park in Limón in the morning to close the youth Festival Arte Raíz, and they will also be in Puerto Viejo on Sunday.
