In order to verify compliance with schedules, routes, amount of complete trips, authorized stops and the use of appropriate units, the Regulatory Authority for Public Services (Aresep) began placing geolocators (GPS) in buses.
The first phase of the project to be held for three months, includes the installation of 225 GPS devices, which will monitor randomly selected routes in each of the 7 provinces.
These devices are instruments that contribute to obtain the necessary information to verify that the service meets the operating scheme authorized by the Public Transport Council (CTP),”
said the Controller General, Roberto Jiménez.
The plan is part of the modernization process in ARESEP. Companies that participate in it do so voluntarily. Both the regulator and the companies will have access to real-time monitoring and reporting of results.
Some of the routes selected were: San José – San Pedro, San José – Ciudad Colón, San José-Ipís, Alajuela- Monserrat- Villa Bonita, Heredia-San Roque-San Lorenzo, San José – Santa Cruz, Cariari Guápiles, among others.
