270 brigades show their ability to respond to emergencies

March 18, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Some 270 brigades from different companies and public and private institutions from the country participated this Saturday in the 2018 Brigade Challenge, where they demonstrated their ability in case of an emergency through a healthy competition.

The activity was carried out at the facilities of the National Fire Academy in San Antonio de Desamparados.

The objective of the competition is to promote preventive actions and that workers are prepared to assist in emergency situations, such as earthquakes, fires, or disasters in their workplaces.

Forty-five brigades participated in this second edition of the challenge, 12 of them in the industrial category (they use the full structural personal protection equipment) and 33 brigades in the non-industrial category.

The teams had to face different challenges:
• Placement of structural protection equipment
• Take a water extinguisher to the sixth floor of the tower
• Take a roll of hoses to the sixth floor with a rope
• Moving a loaded line
• Transport a patient
• Pass through a confined space
• Securing a patient to the splint
• Pass inside a tube
• Dragging a tire

The National Insurance Institute (INS) declared 2018 as the Year of Prevention and approved a Corporate Prevention Strategy at a national level.
