3.2-degree earthquake shook Cartago on Thursday

February 22, 2018 by Staff News Writer

A 3.2-degree tremor was perceived on Thursday afternoon by residents of Cartago and surrounding areas.

The quake was reported at 2:01 p.m. and had a depth of five kilometers. The epicenter was located 7.1 kilometers southeast of Tejar de El Guarco, according to the OVSICORI. Reports from residents of the area indicated that the movement was felt in the outskirts of Paraíso, Orosi and Cartago. Other areas of Central Valley perceived it but in a milder way.

This movement occurs in the same places where the scientific entities located a seismic swarm, which produced 11 earthquakes between Monday and Tuesday.
