3,000 police to protect tourists

April 7, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A total of 3 thousand officials will guard the tourist areas of the country during Easter.

This was confirmed by Gustavo Mata, Minister of Public Security (MSP), who announced the operational actions to be implemented starting on Saturday.

The Deputy Minister of Public Security, Juan José Andrade, said that the operation contemplates 250 hours of continuous work in alliance with Red Cross, Firemen and national councils.

The Public Force has prepared different actions to control the “burnings of Judas” and the participation of officers in the bus stations.

The Director of the Air Surveillance Service, Juan Luis Vargas, said that 10 aircraft are at the service of Costa Ricans and will have strong operations at national airports.

For its part, the Director of the National Coast Guard Service, Martin Arias, recommended that citizens follow recommendations such as not to use drugs or ingest excessive amounts of alcohol.

Similarly, the Border Police Director, Allan Obando, estimated that 4,000 people will leave the country’s borders, which will generate a special operation in Peñas Blancas. An important influx of Nicaraguans who take advantage of this time to return to the neighboring country is expected.
