70 young people need shoes and you can help

March 27, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A group of 70 young men from the juvenile jail in San Rafael de Alajuela do not have shoes.

Now, there is a campaign to help those prisoners between the ages of 18 and 24, who have no shoes. According to the Ministry of Justice, many only have a pair of sandals that the institution provides, and the majority walks barefooted.

It’s hard to know that you depend on people you do not know, I’ve always been institutionalized by the State. I do not have a visitor, but I’m used to it. For me, it’s normal. Here we play soccer barefooted… It’s ugly, but it’s our reality,”

said a 20-year-old man identified as Silver.

Most of these young people were abandoned by their families. In the center there are 151 prisoners, sizes 39 to 42.

The Ministry of Justice enabled the e-mail comunicacion@mj.go.cr and telephones 2439-2610 and 2438-0743 for interested parties who wish to help with shoes and clothing.
