Pregnant women and babies should be a priority in all health services

November 10, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Pregnant women or the ones that think they are pregnant should receive priority attention in health centers before the third and a half week of pregnancy. They should be a priority in all health services, even if they are not insured.

On november 8th, a series of reforms to the regulation on the National System of Evaluation and Analysis of maternal, infant and child mortality came into effect in order to reduce deaths in these periods.

Another change redefines the meaning of “very low birth weight.” Before, it was established that a child born with this condition should weigh less than 1,500 grams. Now, a child in this condition is the one that weighs from one to 1,499 grams.
