On average, 2 cars go up in flames every 24 hours in the country

November 14, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Fire Department is open every day: on average 2 vehicles go up in flames in the national territory.

In fact, until October 2016, firefighters handled more than 620 cases of vehicles that had this kind of problem.

However, the problem is not new. Only in 2013, the highest number of incidents was reached when 680 incidents were managed.

In addition, in 2012, the figure was 672 and in 2015, 675 cars were reported to go up in flames: there were 2 events per day.

According to Manuel Pérez, head of the Central Fire Station, preventive maintenance is failing and then it comes home repairs and oversights in the workshops. He added that aspects such as a loose battery basket, or if there is not a proper electrical system, could cause a warming that causes a short circuit and end up in a fire. He even said that the incorrect installation of a sound system by inexperienced people could be a huge risk.

The Fire Department recommended that if your vehicle present such problems, the important thing to do is to stay calm and assure the integrity of travellers.

If it is a bus. a fast evacuation of passengers is required, and the driver should be able to cope with this kind of situations.
