Costa Rican politicians are worried about Donald Trump

November 16, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Elections in the United States and Republican Donald Trump’s victory get all the attention in the world and Costa Rican politicians are not the exception, especially presidential candidates, who, in 2018, will be in the way of the American president.

Some of the respondants are concerned about the promises Trump did during his campaign, and their possible effects for Costa Rica and the rest of the region when he takes office on January 20th.

Rafael Ortiz, candidate from Unidad Social Cristiana, declared that Costa Rica should keep an eye in trade due to President-Elect’s positions regarding the Free Trade Agreements.

Candidate from the PLN Rolando González agreed that Costa Rica must be aware in order to adapt to possible changes in the bilateral relations with the world ‘s greatest power.

In addition, presidential candidate José María Figueres wrote on his social networks that he is sure that the new government will strengthen the good political and trade relations with Costa Rica.

Republican Donald Trump got less popular support but more votes from the Electoral College, which allowed him to win the election.
