People in shelters are increasing due to downpours

November 21, 2016 by Staff News Writer

According to a report from the National Emergency Commission (CNE), the number of people in shelters in the South Zone, affected by heavy rains in recent days, increased from 216 to 370.

Even though there were 6 refuges, the one located in Riyito de Osa School was closed.

The other 5 shelters increased their number of people:

La Palma (86).
San Ramón de Guaycará (109).
Johnny Mora Church (86).
Neily City Catholic Church (49).
Communal Hall of Pueblo Nuevo de Corredores (40).

President of the CNE Ivan Brenes declared that authorities will continue to repair roads that lead to isolated villages such as Puerto Jiménez.

Damages are still reported on routes between Parrita and Acosta, Monte Rey and Los Santos, which leads to Golfito’s Duty-Free Shopping Center and La Costanera, located between Jiménez and Drake and Ciudad Neily and San Vito.

The Ministry of Public Education (MEP) reported that the closure of seven schools in Puerto Jiménez will be evaluated on November 21st.
