Yellow alert in Turrialba, Jiménez, Alvarado and Oreamuno

December 2, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The National Emergency Commission (CNE) declared a yellow alert in Turrialba, Jiménez, Alvarado and Oreamuno of Cartago after the magnitude 5.3 earthquake that occurred on November 30th.

Several residents of San Martín de Irazú, Capellades, San Rafael, Pacayas and Juan Viñas reported damage to their homes, as well as small landslides and cracks in the area.

Experts from the Vulcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) recorded more than 400 aftershocks after the earthquake.

The CNE requested the Municipal Committees on Emergencies to prepare the reports in case of affectation and to send them to the commission. In addition, they must also check the inventory of supplies and if there is any missing product, they must request its replacement.
