The Ombudsman’s Office is committed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals

December 12, 2016 by Staff News Writer

In the Human Rights Day, commemorated on December 10th, the Ombudsman called on all sectors to join Costa Rica’s objective: to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) of the Agenda 2030, so no one is left behind.

These ODS address the need to eradicate poverty, guarantee the right to food, water and sanitation, guarantee adequate and timely medical care and inclusive education.

Our country must be committed to fight social inequality, discrimination. In addition, we must guarantee that all people, regardless of their status, have their human rights respected, so we can be part of an inclusive, supportive and respectful society,

declared Montserrat Solano, ombudsman of the republic.

According to the institution, the implementation of Agenda 2030 must summon all public institutions, including the powers of the Republic, the autonomous institutions and municipalities.

Furthermore, the civil society, the media, international agencies, organizations, cooperatives, productive and business sectors, trade unions, development associations, among others must be part of this Agenda.

The official is committed not to leave anyone behind as part of the process the country must face in order to assure a greater well-being for present and future generations.
