IMN reports wind gusts of up to 110 km/h

December 21, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Yesterday’s weather conditions caused wind gusts of up to 100 and 110 km/h in mountainous areas and high parts of the country.

The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) explained that this is due to an increase in atmospheric pressure on the national territory. This also generates gusts as fast as 40 km/h in the lower regions.

For Tuesday and Wednesday, average wind speed expected in the lower parts of the Central Valley and the North Pacific is 30-50km/h, with bursts of up to 60km/h; while in the mountains of the country, the average wind speed will be 60-90km/h with gusts close to 100 km/h,”

said the entity.

As for the rainy conditions, the North Zone and the Caribbean will be intermittent with amounts of up to 30 millimeters in 12 hours.

Given these conditions, Upala and Golfito are vulnerable to landslides and floods.
