Delinquent debtors to the CCSS increased by the end of 2016

January 4, 2017 by Staff News Writer

While in June 2016 the employers’ debt with the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) was ¢ 4,921 million, at the end of this year, that amount grew to ¢ 5,258 million.

According to official data, the number of delinquent patterns also increased: it went from 1,056 at half a year to 1,230 in December.

Luis Diego Calderón, director of Collections of the CCSS, said that the institution keeps the efforts to collect all employers and independent workers’ debts, which is why the institution has managed to close 832 delinquent businesses, to start 3,036 judicial proceedings and to file 699 criminal complaints.

Calderón explained that the institution has a series of easy-payment mechanisms: The most commonly-used mechanism is the payment agreement, which involves making an initial installment of approximately 20% and the remaining amount can be paid monthly within a term of 3 years.

The CCSS urged delinquent debtors to reach an agreement.
