“X-Ray” to fight crime!

January 5, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A kind of cantonal X-ray will allow officers to distribute responsibilities in order to deal with crime.

This model, applied in Colombia, is promoted by the Ministry of Public Security (MSP). Colombian authorities visited the country in August to provide advice in this regard and now it will start with 12 municipalities.

María Fullmen Salazar, deputy minister of Security, explained that each municipality has, among its obligations, a series of issues that affect security.

Therefore, the MSP considered appropriate to review what situations must be addressed together and what other separately.

Some municipalities participating in this plan are Curridabat, La Unión, Montes de Oca, Tibás, Moravia, Santa Ana, Desamparados, Escazú, Alajuela, San José and San Antonio de Belén.

What is the plan? Make a kind of ‘corridor’ between neighboring cantons, gathering information, experiences and statistics.
