New route 32 will have bike path

January 11, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The extension of Route 32 will bring good news for cyclists: the route will have 26 kilometers of bike path. The CONAVI made the decision to include a space for those who use this means of transport, after learning in the construction of other roads.

The path for cyclists will not be linear, because the construction of said path is expensive. Therefore, the path will be enabled in sections where authorities detected more movement of such transport.

Cyclists can ride on a track where vehicles are driven at more than 80 kmph if there is a bike path. We have detected that in these areas this means of transport is widely used and we seek to ensure the safety of people using bikes, to get them off the main road and give them their own space,”

said Kenneth Solano, an engineer from CONAVI.

The route will have 2 kilometers of cycle path in the area where the expansion begins, in Río Frío. Also in the sector of Molino River in Guápiles, near Parismina River, in Pocora, in the zone of the Chirripó River in Siquirres and other sectors.

The route will also have a parking area for rest. It is similar to the one for buses, which can be used by drivers in case of emergency.

If the drivers are on the road and feel they are falling asleep, they can use that space to avoid parking on other areas which may cause accidents. It will also serve to repair the vehicle in the event of a mechanical failure,”

added Solano.

The expansion project is carried out by CHEC. The company has already started the design work, so it is possible that in the coming weeks partial closures of the route are carried out at night.

The work is valued at $ 485 million and it could be ready in 2020.
