January 13, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On November 2016, the economic activity of the country, measured by the Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMAE), registered an inter-annual rate of 4.5% and an average growth of 4.7% in the eleven months of the year.

According to information provided by the Central Bank, a year earlier, the growth was 5.5%.

The institution informed that a greater dynamism was observed in inter-annual terms of most of the activities and it was shown in the contribution to the inter-annual rate of November 2016.

Services (accounting for 75% of the year-on-year change), followed by manufacturing activity (contribution of 14.2%), and to a lesser extent agricultural activity (6.6%) and construction (4, 2%) were the most important areas.

Construction activity showed a year-on-year change of 3.5%, presenting an improvement of 8.5%.

In addition, construction for private purposes presented, for the second consecutive month, a growth after having negative rates from November 2015 to September 2016.

In contrast, construction for public purposes showed a decline of -7.3%, mainly due to the effect generated by the completion and start-up of Reventazón Hydroelectric Project.
