30 thousand new people will benefit from Avancemos

January 18, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Avancemos program, which allows people living in poverty to study, will grow in 2017 and will benefit 30,000 new people.

This was announced by the Minister of Human Development and President of the Joint Institute of Social Assistance, Emilio Arias, on Tuesday afternoon at the press conference after the Governing Council.

In addition, age was raised to 40 years old, so that older people can enjoy this benefit, especially women who are household heads.

What we want is to reintegrate people who for various reasons have not been part of Avancemos program,”

said Arias.

The measures also include an increase in the amount of aid received by each of these people every month, so they can continue studying.

Those who are going to take seventh, eighth and ninth grade will go from receiving 25 thousand colones to reciving 30 thousand colones, while those who are in the tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade will now get 40 thousand colones.

The Minister of Education, Sonia Marta Mora, stressed that the primary objective of these decisions is to give a second chance to those who have not been able to finish school because of their social situation.
