A Fuego Lento: a delicious dream

February 13, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Gabriela Carvajal and Ricardo Salas shared the love of cooking since they were engaged, almost 4 years ago.

They always talked about how nice it would be to make cakes and pastries and dedicate their lives to that. She was a Visual Arts teacher and he was a bartender. Neither of them had studied gastronomy or anything like it, because of how expensive the career was. However, after taking some free courses, they decided to follow their dream.

The first thing they did was braided breads to sell among their relatives and they were sold “like hotcakes”. Afterwards, they created a Facebook page and started offering their products to friends and relatives.

We decided to call our small business “A Fuego Lento”, as a way of expressing that, step by step, the dreams and goals are no longer an utopia and become reality. Of course, as long as we are full of patience and hope,

said 24-year-old Gabriela.

This couple only had a hand mixer, a small kitchen oven and a few utensils. By using these, they could satisfy their customers’ demands, who are growing more and more.

When they realized that and the hours of the day were not enough to meet the demands, they were forced to divide their time between their jobs and the business.

A Fuego Lento grew and improved the production processes thanks to the tools they were buying little by little, with their profits. However, it was not enough and Gabriela had to give up her job as a teacher to dedicate herself 100% to the business. Ricardo keeps his job at the bar and he dedicates the rest of his time to their dream.

Despite the tiredness and the stress to meet all the orders, they do not change their days for nothing, because there isn’t greater satisfaction than watching their customers taste the desserts and being delighted by them.

If you wish to contact them, you can look them up on Facebook or call them to 8889-5595 or 8406-4171.
