Two Romanians allegedly stole 75 million colones

February 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

At least 75 million colones were stolen by a gang that used the skimming methodology (use of a device placed at ATMs and copy information from users’ cards) to clone credit and debit cards at ATMs in Heredia.

The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) indicated so in a report. In addition, it also arrested two Romanians near the National University (UNA). They are surnamed Timmis and Mijahil and they are linked to a gang that alledgedly committed 35 crimes in the last 4 months.

According to Pablo Calvo, from the OIJ, the suspects were recorded by security cameras and would have also acted in Alajuela, Limón and San José.

More than 25 complaints are under investigation and they would all be linked to this group.

At the moment, authorities are investigating the foreigners.
