The renal transplant program started in Max Peralta Hospital

February 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Max Peralta Hospital’s oldest adult patient in the hemodialysis service has a new life.

This man, whose identity can’t be revealed because the Law of Transplants of Organs and Tissues estabishes so, was the first person to receive a kidney transplant in this medical center. Thanks to this surgery, the renal transplant program started in this institution.

It is hard to believe it: before last Wednesday, I was another person, I got tired a lot, I used to wake up feeling pain, I did not sleep or eat well, my body was was itchy all the time. It was a condition that limited me a lot, but now that’s a past story,

declared the man at a press release from the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS).

The surgery lasted about 3 hours and it was perfect. According to the specialists’ report, the patient evolved well from the first hours, he was aware, he was totally oriented and he was talking, to the point that he can be discharged this week.

Max Peralta Hospital was working as an organ and tissue receptor center for patients who were transplanted in other health facilities.
