The Constitutional Chamber won’t change the legislators’ pension scheme

February 22, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Legislators celebrated the ruling of the Constitutional Chamber which maintains the elimination of privileges to legislators’ pension regime, which had been appealed by former legislators Rolando Lacle and Danilo Chaverri.

The current Legislature had removed some privileges, such as the possibility for widows and children to totally inherit 100% of the pension, as well as high amounts of adjustment for which an extraordinary contribution was established.

There are good news for the country, for public finances. That’s the reason why we fight against privileges for a small group of people. As for the appellants, I would expect two things: first, that they do not start an action of unconstitutionality and then that Chamber rejects them to consolidate the laws against privileges,

said Otto Guevara from Movimiento Libertario.
