Fish offers this Lent!

February 28, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Lent will start on March 1st and it will come with an increase of fish consumption among Costa Ricans. Take advantage of this food as it has great benefits for your health.

Fish and some seafood are highly recommended by doctors, nutritionists, and even agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO) due to their high content of nutrients, vitamins, minerals and essential oils like Omega 3, which help prevent cardiovascular diseases and keep an ideal weight.

According to a study by Stanford University in California, Omega-3 consumption in fish such as salmon, sardines and anchovies is related to a 10% reduction in the risk of dying from a heart attack.

In addition, fish is a great alternative to consume instead of red meat. It is a lean and healthy protein, which brings you fewer calories.

The fish markets of San José are preparing promotions and special discounts for this week.

José Antonio Gutiérrez, a merchant, informed that they are preparing tastings, royalties, offers and special prices, such as:

-Siamese catfish Fillet: ¢ 3,500 per kilo
-Trout fillet: ¢ 6,500 per kilo
-Seafood: ¢ 4,200 per kilo
-Small shrimp: ¢ 4,900 per kilo
-Large shrimp: ¢ 8,500 per kilo

The promotions start on Ash Wednesday. It will extend to Thursday and Friday. After that, there will be offers every Friday from Lent to Easter.
