Measures to solve Calderón Guardia Hospital’s emergency area saturation

March 2, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Due to Calderón Guardia Hospital’s emergency area saturation, some measures are being carried out so that the service does not collapse.

-After due observations, discharged people have increased.
-Authorities have transferred patients that, due to their health condition, could stay in peripheral hospitals.
-A bed census is taking place all the time, so that, a new patient can be immediately admitted when there is an empty bed.
-Only patients with a complicated health condition are left in the hospital.

In addition, the Medical Management of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) maintains the order that states that the Central Clinic and Goicoechea Clinic work 24 hours to support the hospital with less-complex cases.

The hospital daily receives up to 400 emergencies.

Authorities at the medical center explained that this week’s saturation was because the hospital was full, which prevented them from passing patients from emergencies to hospitalization. However, they say they are working as usual.
