Border Police confiscated 200 vials of Ketamine

March 7, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On Sunday, officers from the Border Police and the Ministry of Public Security intercepted a truck with 200 vials of Ketamine in Peñas Blancas (border with Nicaragua).

This medicine generally used by veterinarians is also sold by Costa Rican drug dealers.

In fact, on February 24th, the Drug Control Police (PCD) of the Ministry of Public Security, confirmed the first case of proven sales of ketamine as a recreational drug. The incident occurred in Los Cuadros de Purral, where the agents dismantled a drug gang.

Then, on Sunday, the Border Police saw a driver showing nervousness near the customs post of Peñas Blancas, La Cruz, province of Guanacaste, so they decided to check his truck.

Upon revision, the officers found many vials with apparent medicine, which were tested. The results revealed that they were, in fact, 200 vials of ketamine being illegally brought into the country.

The driver, a Nicaraguan national named Olivas, was immediately arrested.

The officers also seized 10,200 bottles with various medications, including Cataflán, Dorixina, Alicol, Gravol, Serafón, and a “moringa” bag.
