Mata: “we are ready to keep fighting organized crime”

March 10, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Without hiding his concern, minister of Security Gustavo Mata affirmed that the police is prepared and ready to keep fighting against organized crime.

In the last two weeks, several Central Americans who have entered Costa Rica by air and by land have been detained with large amounts of money, as well as drugs.

authorities’ timely action resulted in the arrest of four Guatemalan women, who arrived through Juan Santamaria Airport with thousands of dollars hidden in their bodies and suitcases: the money is apparently related to drugs.

In addition, large amounts of money and drugs have been found on the road: authorities have discovered them in La Cruz and PeƱas Blancas. Three Hondurans and one Guatemalan were arrested for hiding money and cocaine.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, up to March 9th, more than $ 2,500,000 had been seized in 2017, in addition to 21 million colones.
