15 tourists have been robbed in Limón

March 13, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The statistics from the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) show that 15 tourists had already been robbed in the same area where a Canadian photographer was murdered a week ago.

According to this data, 15 robberies were executed with bladed weapon, 2 people got their belongings grabbed, one person was threatened with a firearm and one person was intimidated.

Puerto Viejo belongs to Cahuita district, the area where photographer Bruce Craig McCallum died. The OIJ data indicate that the foreigner left in the morning to photograph the sunrise and he was apparently assaulted by a subject who has not been identified.

According to Nelson Barquero, deputy director of the Public Force in the national Caribbean, authorities are already working, along with the local municipality , on a camera plan and he said that they have identified 7 suspects of committing assaults. He also explained that the subjects are from nearby places and they know the area.
