Coast Guard rescues and releases 13 iguanas

March 20, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Coast Guard officers were surprised to find 15 iguanas locked in a container in a public street.

The officers were returning from dealing with a violence complaint in the area of Boca de Río Pacuare when they saw the closed container from which came strange noises.

As they approached and opened it, they were surprised to find 15 iguanas, 13 of which were alive. They were released immediately.

Iguanas are highly sought after in Costa Rica to sell for consumption or as pets.
