The bicycle comprehensive plan is almost ready

March 29, 2017 by Staff News Writer

More than a month ago, after four cyclists’ death in Tres Ríos, President Luis Guillermo Solís asked to create a comprehensive plan to assist those who ride a bicycle .

Last week, Deputy Minister of Transport Liza Castillo assured that the plan was waiting for its final revision.

Minister of Communication Mauricio Herrera informed that the plan is already defined and it is only waiting for competent authorities to make it public.

Authorities from the MOPT met in February with several cycling organizations to get their opinion and collect ideas and information for the plan, which aims to protect bicycle-road users.

One of the ideas is to give an exclusive space to cyclists on weekends by closing roads in some specific parts of the country.

In addition, the mayors of Montes de Oca, Curridabat and La Unión de Tres Ríos suggested to make a recreational cycle path that connects the three cantons for those who want to ride a bicycle without the fear of being hit by a vehicle.
