The Venezuela’s Supreme Court repealed the controversial law

April 3, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Venezuela’s Supreme Court (TSJ) has reversed its decision of assuming the role of the Parliament, which has a large opposition majority.

The Nation Defense Council urged the Supreme Court to review its decision of removing the Parliament’s functions.

The measure was repealed after an agreement between the public powers. However, the Legislature was not included because its representatives met until the early hours of April 1st. They were summoned by president Nicolás Maduro. The TSJ also repealed the content of another ruling in which it withdrew immunity from parliamentarians. Luisa Ortega, Attorney General, described the measure as a “rupture of the constitutional order”.

The decision comes after a widespread condemnation by the international community, as well as fractures within the Chavist movement, which were evident after Ortega’s statements.
