Hair donated by 900 people will accompany cancer patients

April 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Hair donated by 900 people in October 2016 will help breast cancer patients assimilate the chemotherapy process.

The 50 wigs were part of a FUNDESO donation, which aims to help patients who are slowly losing their hair due to the treatment they receive against the disease.

The donations were made through a campaign that was carried out in the different Walmart stores located in Curridabat, Heredia, Desamparados, San Sebastián, Tibás, Guadalupe, Escazú, Alajuela and Cartago, where braids were cut and collected. Walmart later found the wig manufacturers.

The natural hair wigs have high costs and the manufacturing process is complex, in order to make the wigs the donor people had to have a hair length of at least 25 centimeters.

At present FUNDESO has few wigs, which are mostly made of synthetic material and 95% of them are second-handed.
