French tried to invest in the country and report fraud

May 10, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A French couple sued a lawyer for an alleged scam that occurred in 2012.

According to the foreigners, they wanted to invest in a hotel located in Guanacaste, but indicate that their legal adviser stole over 60 million colones from them.

The trial for this case began this Wednesday. The accused is a Costa Rican national surnamed Nassar, who was the lawyer of Marc Bauer and his wife Fabianne Oliveira since 2005.

The foreigners visited Costa Rica in 2002 and subsequently decided to invest in the country. In 2009, they signed a tenancy agreement for five years and hired Nassar to complete the process.

However, two years later, the French learned that the property was being auctioned, so they started to participate in the process. It was then when Nassar recommended that the Bauer family and the leasing company were included in the auction, so they agreed that the acquisition would be through the lawyer.

The purchase process became effective and according to the complainants more than $ 362 thousand were paid for the property. However, in August 2011, the auction was canceled and Nassar had to return the money, but there were nearly 60 million colones less in the deposit.

Faced with the situation, the French began the judicial process in the first judicial circuit of San José.
