Ticos may report environmental conflicts with digital tool

May 11, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A digital tool will allow Costa Ricans to denounce and have access to the environmental conflicts that are registered in the country through the map of Accessible Environmental Justice , which was presented on Thursday by the Ministry of Environment, the Administrative Environmental Court and the Neotropical Foundation.

According to Ligia Umaña, president of the Environmental Administrative Tribunal, the tool will allow users to keep abreast of the conflicts, actors involved and the repercussions that the country faces.

Fernando Mora, Deputy Minister of Water and Seas, explained that the main conflicts are related to water resources, mining and wetlands.

The map will soon be available at the link: conflictsambientales.org

The tool will publicly display the conflicts, will give greater inclusion and will have the different contributions of the national legislation.

This project is based on the World Atlas of Open Justice prepared by the University of Barcelona and will analyze every complaint issued by Costa Ricans.
