The transport system and infrastructure are in intensive care and without a short-term cure. Faced with this situation, Marco Urbina, civil engineer and general manager of Fertilizers Agro, made a proposal named Infrastructure of the Future in Costa Rica 2018-2038.

In the document, the expert argues that one of the priorities is to make Circunvalación a continuous flow path and without traffic lights.

We have been taking a long time to complete works and this is one of the most important projects, route 39 has 40 years under construction and it’s perhaps the most relevant step for the relief of the capital,”

said the specialist.

His proposal consists of making two levels on the current route, where the second is granted and without traffic lights. A continuous circulation, with high access from:
• La Pozuelo
• The Juan Pablo Segundo Bridge
• The National Gymnasium
• Route 32
• The Florencio del Castillo Highway

In addition, Urbina added that all this can be done with the existing right of way, eliminating tedious expropriation procedures.

In addition, he also believes in the need to build a San José-San Ramón route, to expand Route 27 and the section of Hacienda Vieja, in Cartago.

In 1965 General Cañas Hihgway was inaugurated with four lanes, while in 2010 Route 27 had two lanes. At what point did we lose our vision for the future?”

asked Urbina, who also holds a master’s degree in business administration.

The civil engineer took a year to realize this plan that contemplates a series of edges.

For example, the issue of entering into multilevel roads is a common theme of the project, as well as incorporating solar panels along these types of roads.

For Urbina

the fast air train is urgent and would run on the same right-of-way of the current system as it connects Alajuela, Heredia, San José, San Antonio de Belén and Cartago.”

Also, a diversion would be added to the Juan Santamaría Airport, so that from San José, you can reach the air terminal through the new International Convention Center. It is only one of the four new branches to incorporate.
