More than 200 people are being extorted for having credits with Akl brothers

May 24, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A total of 200 people had loans and credits with Canadian brothers Elias and Ziad Akl, and the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) ensures that a group of thugs continues to collect money from them.

Therefore, the OIJ asks the residents of EscazĂș, Santa Ana and La Sabana or anyone who is being affected by this situation to file complaints with the entity. In the last few hours, the OIJ has received at least 15 complaints of extortion, and the most worrying thing is that four of the complainants decided to withdraw their complaints due to the threats they received by the thugs.

We cannot allow these guys to keep hitting Costa Ricans. We handle these specific cases and therefore we ask that those affected to report them,”

said Luis Guillermo Fonseca, chief of criminal investigations of the OIJ.

In total, credits ranged from $1000 to $20,000 that were lent to merchants and taxi drivers, mostly from the west side of the capital.
