US accuses Venezuela of destroying human rights

June 7, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On Tuesaday, US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, accused the Venezuelan government of destroying human rights and urged them to leave the Geneva Council, to which Venezuela responded by asserting that Washington “has no moral authority” in the matter.

The Venezuelan government is destroying human rights and democracy in Venezuela,”

said Haley during a ceremony organized by the United States on the sidelines of the 35th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Accusing the government of Maduro of committing crimes against the economic and political institutions of Venezuela, Haley stated that

the regime of Maduro is deliberately starving and wounding its people,”

and that in recent years it has strengthened its grip on Venezuela, turning a previously thriving nation into a corrosive dictatorship.

This is an economic, political and humanitarian crisis that demands the attention of the world, […] and the Human Rights Council has no excuse to continue to ignore the violations and abuses that are happening in Venezuela.”

The Venezuelan ambassador to the UN, Jorge Valero, responded by stating that Washington has no moral authority to accredit itself as a universal judge in the field of human rights.

It’s outrageous that the American empire, which has massacred entire peoples with its preventive wars and that tortures people arbitrarily arrested in illegal centers, is against any nation,”

snapped Valero.
