Santa Ana celebrated the Tree Day

June 16, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On June 15th, the Pro Zoological Foundation (Fundazoo) joined the celebration of the Tree Day by distributing information about the botanical programs that are carried out at the Santa Ana Conservation Center and at the National Zoo and Botanical Garden Park Simón Bolívar.

Located at the Santa Ana Conservation Center, this program aims to satisfy the needs of plants for the restoration of the areas administered by the Foundation and allow the reforestation of areas outside the institution through the sale, donation and exchange of our trees, palms and herbs.

Through fundraising tours, purchase in seed banks, donation of collaborators and friendly nurseries, the reproduction of plants for our nurseries is maintained and this creates a great opportunity for people to known what Fundazoo does in this field. Currently, the nursery has about 24 thousand endangered or threatened native plants and timber, some of ornamental and exotic interest,”

said Fernando Cabezas, head of the Department of Botany.

Between 2012 and 2016, the nursery has promoted the planting of more than 30 thousand trees covering thousands of square meters in small farms, parks, sidewalks and gardens.
