Nicoya invites you to the first cycling activity for the kidney

June 16, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On August 20th, 2017, the first recreational cycling activity for the kidney will be held in Nicoya, starting at 8:00 am. Participants will be able to enjoy two routes: 10 Kilometers and 20 kilometers.

The activity will take place on the colonial- indigenous route and will start on the Nicoya Sports Center. Registration will cost 10 thousand colones and includes: hydration, assistance, lunch, T-shirt and parking.

Hugo Delgado Vega, a specialist in family medicine and coordinator of the peritoneal dialysis unit at La Anexión hospital, explained that this activity aims to collaborate with the renal patients of the unit, as well as the Rotary Club of Nicoya.

The professional said that there will also be prevention activities, in which the population will be urged not to lower their guard in preventing chronic kidney disease, which affects the Guanacaste population and Nicaraguans.

Delgado said that the main thing to take care of kidneys is hydration, by taking at least three liters of water a day. And in case you want some other type of drink, the ideal is to opt for natural fresh fruit and preferably sugar free. Also, do not overexpose in the sun, especially between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm and use long sleeves, long pants, wide-brimmed hats. Sunscreen is just a complement.
