Zona Sur to support producers with technology plant

June 19, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On Friday, the National Production Council (CNP) presented the progress in the project of the regional plant of added value technologies in the southern area.

Carlos Monge, CNP’s executive president, explained that the idea of the project is to contribute to micro, small and medium producers in the cantons of Osa, Buenos Aires, Corredores, Golfito and Cotobrus in the marketing of their products and reactivation of the economy of the area.

The process has been long and has now begun to bear fruit. It started with the project approach in the framework of the promotion of Investment Projects with Added Value by the CNP with the support of IICA. This was followed by the feasibility study and its presentation to the Territorial Rural Development Councils before the Municipal Council of Coto Brus and the efforts to get the budget,”

said Monge.

The cost of the plant amounts to ¢1.7 billion and will be located on a two-hectare property in Agua Buena, which was donated by Cotobrus Municipality.

At the moment, the CNP has ¢1,500 million, coming from a special budgetary allocation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG).
