Joselyn Orozco and her son Andrew were among the first to make an appointment in Tirrases in Curridabat | ALBERT MARIN.

Waits of up to two hours to see a doctor and a lack of stationery for writing certifications of illnesses are some of the problems faced by the Ibero-American University (Unibe) as it took control of services at 36 EBAIS, or state funded clinics in Curridabat, La Union and Montes de Oca. The private university started on Monday to provide attention to 171,000 people, covered by the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) after it canceled its contract with the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR).
